Designing a journal's very first issue
Serious but lively pages for young researchers
The Journal of Emerging Minds in Undergraduate Research (JEMUR) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal publishing undergraduate and graduate student research in Turkish and English. As its Layout and Design Editor, I design the journal's printed look from start to finish.
The first issue, published in August 2026, runs to 106 pages and six papers. The language I built with a navy ground, white geometric triangles and a quiet serif title repeats on every page, from the cover and masthead to the contents and back cover.
The front matter
Every article in the same calm rhythm
The article template always stacks the journal logo, the volume and issue line, the article-type label, the title, authors and affiliations, the submitted, accepted and published dates and the abstract in the same hierarchy, so papers from very different disciplines read with one journal's voice.

I'm in the same issue as an author, too
My first article appeared in JEMUR 1(1): it examines 12 front pages from nine Turkish newspapers after Galatasaray's 2000 UEFA Cup victory, looking at typography, page position and visual rhetoric.
